1. sshfs mount a directory: $ sudo sshfs example.com example
2. open up nautilus, gedit, system monitor, etc...
3. network failure
4. kill gedit... nautilus and system monitor can't be killed, and need a hard reboot to fix

I have this problem in Ubuntu 10.4...
