Pointing users of the current Nagios plugins package to a different package would not only be a huge disservice to current Nagios users, but it could very likely cause a number of problems and community and customer backlash. I trust that the package maintainers would not make such a brash decision.

I would also like to point out that there are ulterior motives at play that most people are not aware of at this point. Michael Friedrich originally opened this bug and he's no doubt playing some cards he's not sharing with everyone.
