User=gnome-remote-desktop

But it seems that user isn't created by the package? I wonder if that would part of the issue but then it should be happening also on other systems...

Could you try to manually start
$ /usr/libexec/gnome-remote-desktop-daemon --system
and see if that prints a more explicit error maybe?
