Bugged window opens when closing a pm while notifications are running

While receiving a pm last night (each line was one word of a sentence so it was a lot of messages) I maximized DC and closed the PM, but the notifications from the users massive amount of messages were still showing balloons and as i closed the pm a new bugged window opened <http://minus.com/mbjMuHKdj3#1o>

Potential fix. I couldn't see any adverse effects of the patch.

that is a possible fix for bug 1251911, but it needs more investigation... apparently 64-bit MinGW builds (not 32-bit ones, not VS ones) receive more "balloon closed" messages than they should...

I don't know if it's related to bug 1251911 but doing as the original report, I get an immediate crash on my Win 8 system. (And the submitted patch will not cause a crash.) I am re-opening this so we don't lose track of the diff etc, because I'm unsure of the relation with the other bug.

I went ahead and pushed the patch in comment #1, I guess we will have to see the next release if the reporter is still experiencing problems (either for this bug or for bug 1251911).
