I agree with this, if Ubuntu wants to make life easier for users in this new desktop environment minimize on click is essential to it, dash to dock fully supports that option so I dont know why it is not included in Ubuntu dock, I am using 17.10 and I really miss that functionality, also Ubuntu needs an integrated search like the one in Unity dash because default Gnome search is anything but useful, I needed to install gnome-search-tool to have access to proper search functionality, these two things I consider essential in making new Ubuntu desktop usable, currently it is neither a copy of Unity nor vanilla Gnome so it doesnt have strengths of neither, I understand this is a transitory phase, but in my opinion Ubuntu desktop needs to be either pushed towards copying Unity as much as possible with extensions (existing or new ones) and perhaps a MacOS like search or just leave it as vanilla Gnome with Ubuntu fonts and theme. Current state is neither Unity nor Gnome which doesnt serve much purpose in the long run. App indicators dont work properly either with some applications (tiny or non existent icons) while TopIcons Plus extension on Gnome 3.26 still works flawlessly.
