Testing with a new NVIDIA card, I found the workaround of disabling dynamic twin view didn't seem to work in Ubuntu 11.10.

Further investigation seems to suggest the workaround failing is in fact regression bug 888039 which appears to be solved by the new compiz-composite timing code I proposed in bug 880707.
