I've retested this problem, and it is slightly different than my original report. The first time, an image is opened from Nautilus by EOG, focus is correct. But when you return to Nautilus, and open a second image, focus stays with Nautilus.
Running a fresh installed 11.10 system with the latest updates (even proposed). Tested on another 11.10 system (without proposed), also fresh installed. They act exactly the same.
