I've been having this problem in FF 3.0 and now also in 3.5 with the installation of 9.10.
I also use Compiz.
Despite what is said in earlier posts, for me it is possible to get autocomplete back without restarting the browser. If I switch to another program for a while (alt+tab), and then go back to FF, it will work again (randomly).
