I agree with you, I think actually mysqld_multi isn't compatible with xtrabackup because xtrabackup didn't manage mysql group [mysqld1], [mysqld2], etc...in my.cnf.

I made a post on the Google group of Galera (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/codership-team/__O3j3ySyxg) (I have a MariaDB Cluster of 3 nodes), and I would like to use xtrabackup in SST method but it doesn't work...
