Do you mean that users of Linux Mint 18.x will not receive the version that contains such fixes, even as a patch? It's a major security issue, and can likewise deal great instability. This isn't just an aesthetic thing. Access that bypasses a lockscreen (even if only temporary) is something way to critical to be fixed in a version release.
