That traceback looks like the update-status hook code is assuming that the application pod will always be up (or at least it isn't trapping an exception for when the pod isn't allowing connections yet).

That certainly doesn't seem like an Operator or Juju issue.

Thanks for testing the fix, we'll look to get it into a final Operator Framework release.
