This is a real bummer: syncing via CalDAV is one of the most important features to "escape" the iCloud/Google ecosystems. Without the ability to sync contacts and calendars, a very essential feature of a Smartphone is missing.
As it stands now, an Ubuntu touch device is either a Google frontend or a brick. If we want Ubuntu Touch to become an alternative to iOS/Android, a phoen must be good at being a phone in the first place, and that - in my opinion - includes email, contacts and - most important in my view - calendars. In my case the backend would be ownCloud.
