Bug Description

In OTA-8 there was a UI element that allowed "GPS" and "WiFi Location" detection to be turned on and off separately from each other. When I installed OTA-9, the "GPS" setting was turned off and now I can't turn it on any more!

Yes, I know it can take a long time for the GPS sensor to get a fix: I left it on for a couple of hours, connected to the Operator network, both on 2G and 3G... Been struggling with it for 2 days now...

Executing:
ubuntu-location-serviced-cli --bus system --get --property visible_space_vehicles

Gives as output:
Attempted to unregister path (path[0] = com path[1] = ubuntu) which isn't registered.

Executing:
sudo GLOG_v=1000 GLOG_logtostderr=1 ubuntu-location-serviced-cli --bus system --test

Gives as output:
I0203 hh:mm:ss.nnnnnn 24448 android_hardware_abstraction_layer.cpp:134] static void com::ubuntu::location::providers::gps::adroid::HardwareAbstractionLayer::on_on_nmea_update(int64_t, const char*, int void°): timestamp=iLargeNumberWithLast3Digits000 nmea=$GPACCURACY,3162.1*3F

Phone was never reset, so /var/log/ubuntu-location-service* contains quite a bit of files:
ls | wc
136 136 10507

Hardware: Original BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu version
Software: Ubuntu Touch 15.04 (OTA-9)
Last updated: 30/1/2016

Anything that allows me to turn GPS on again (even temporarily changing a setting in the file system that will not survive a reboot) will do for now because I'm stuck in the Sahara right now... ;-)

Since the update the option to turn GPS on/off in «position» is gone, no idea why. But it is still there in battery settings, so I use this as a work-around.

Thanks for your report.

The GPS toggle has been removed from the indicator on purpose. Refer to bug 1351299 for a rationale. It will also be removed from the battery settings in next OTA (bug 1533837)

You can reenable the GPS by going to system-settings / battery and switch the GPS toggle at the bottom of the screen to 'On'.

Let us know if it fixes your issue.

Thanks.

Turning GPS on in the battery section is the perfect workaround for OTA-9. (and I *should* have found that myself) ;-)

And I've seen Jean-Baptise already added that GPS needs to be turned on when installing next OTA [here](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1533837/comments/4) so this bug can be closed.

Merci bien à vous deux! :-)
