The independent solution doesn't solve the problem. It needs to know what categories are displayed in the tag browser to restrict the categories to examine. This doesn't negate the idea of adding "in_category", which would a form of the existing "all" that ignores the limit settable in Prefs / Searching.

I will look more at in_tag_browser and its discovery.
