"calibre://show_book/Library_Name/book_id" fails if the book is not in the current view (search or VL). Note that it also happens if Calibre is currently closed and Behaviour > Virtual library to apply when current library is open is applied.

Creating a URL modifier to switch VLs (calibre://show_book/Library_Name/book_id?virtual-library=none) could also work if you think it should be up to user choice.
