Bug Description

When I generate a catalog, about every other catalog lists two copies of each entry. The Catalog should have approximately 10,000 entries, but shows 20,000. I can't think what I am doing differently such that the catalog from last week is fine, and the catalog for this week has the issue. I used to generate catalogs in MOBI to send to Kindle; about 6 or 8 [or more?] updates ago, I discovered that generating the catalog in .EPUB cured the duplication problem, so started using that. Now I get the issue whether the catalog is generated in EPUB or MOBI.

I keep Calibre updated. Currently on 1.24 [64 bit, Win 7 - 64] at the office and 1.24 [Mac OS X.9, recently upgraded from 10.6, but both OS's had the issue] at home. I have not had any issues with using the 2 platforms since I started truncating some extra long titles when adding books. I share the libraries through Dropbox, and have for 2 years or so. I am very careful not to leave two instances of Calibre running. My Dropbox does not show duplicate files or directories. I do keep multiple files of each book, but more likely three of them than two. None of the catalog entries show as many copies as there are formats.

This problem has been intermittent.

Changing the component for this bug.

 assignee griker
 tag catalogs
 status triaged

Changed in calibre:
assignee: nobody → GRiker (griker)
status: New → Triaged

Please attach a copy of your metadata.db file from your library folder. You can find the folder containing your metadata.db file by clicking the down arrow next to the library icon in the main toolbar, then selecting 'Switch/create library…'. The path to your library folder is shown at the top of the dialog.

Changed in calibre:
status: Triaged → Incomplete

Thank you so much. I sent you a DropBox link as the file is too big to
email.

I'm not sure where you sent the Dropbox link. I am notified when changes to the ticket are posted at the site listed in the emails you're receiving - https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1281296.

Post the link in a new comment here at the launchpad site. I will let you know when I've downloaded it, then you can delete the file from your Dropbox account.

This should be the DropBox link to my metadata.db

Thank you

I have downloaded your metadata.db file, you can remove it from Dropbox.

I've submitted a patch resolving this problem. The fix should be in the next release of calibre.

Changed in calibre:
status: Incomplete → Fix Committed

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every Friday.

THANK YOU. You, and G Riker and all the team, are such geniuses. You have no idea - or perhaps you do - how rare and precious responsive software support is.

Sent from my iPad typing with two fingers because I am not at the office with a real keyboard. Please excuse typos.
