Bug Description
Regarding original bug 1245681, had an additional thought that may be worth considering: rather than trying to create some kind of functionality to allow all searches to display as virtual libraries (as originally requested in bug 1245681), what about just adding a keyboard shortcut to create a virtual library from whatever is typed into the search bar (that is, this key combination would create a virtual library from the search bar contents while the enter key would continue to cause the contents of the search bar to be utilized just as they are today)?
The benefit of just creating a keyboard shortcut to do this is that end users choose exactly when the virtual library functionality becomes active and when it doesn't, but are saved the effort of using the GUI every time they want to create a virtual library from the current search. Also doesn't require any core programming/
Thanks for taking the time to look at this again, and don't worry - if you still don't feel that this is worth pursuing, I won't bring it up further :) Thanks again.
I have pasted the original contents of bug 1245681 below for reference.
Using Calibre 1.10 on Windows 7
Whenever I perform a search via the search bar, I find myself very often pairing it with the menu option "Virtual Library, *current search" in order to restrict tags, authors, series, etc. I would find it very useful if I were able to configure Calibre (via Preferences?) to always create a virtual library based on the current search in the search bar and to delete/remove it whenever the search bar is cleared.
Calibre currently has all the pure functionality I am looking for regarding virtual libraries - this request is meant to alleviate the manual work of clicking the Virtual Library button and then selecting the "*current search" option with every search.
Let me know if any additional info needed.
Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every Friday.
