Bug Description

Using Calibre 1.8 on Windows 7

Whenever I perform a search via the search bar, I find myself very often pairing it with the menu option "Virtual Library, *current search" in order to restrict tags, authors, series, etc. I would find it very useful if I were able to configure Calibre (via Preferences?) to always create a virtual library based on the current search in the search bar and to delete/remove it whenever the search bar is cleared.

Calibre currently has all the pure functionality I am looking for regarding virtual libraries - this request is meant to alleviate the manual work of clicking the Virtual Library button and then selecting the "*current search" option with every search.

Let me know if any additional info needed.

I had a look at this, and I dont thgink it can be made to work well.

1) There is no way to remove the VL when the search box is cleared,
since applying the current search as a VL automatically clears the search

2) Searching is used in a lot of contexts in calibre, clicking on the
Tag browser, to show marked books after various operations -- like failed
bulk metadata downloads, various plugins and so on. While in theory, one
could somehow distnguish between searches explicitly triggerred by the
suer and the rest, that is lot of work and it is not clear when a search
has been "explicitly triggereed by the user". Does using the temp marker
action count, clicking on the tag browser, and so on.

All in all, not something I feel can be made to work cleanly.
