I have the same problem.
I just tried to remove the applet from the dock to test if it behaves the same and it did.

This seems to be the main problem why the applet does not work: /weather- ydn-yql. media.yahoo. com/forecastrss ?location= GMXX6175& format= xml&u=c -> Couldn't download file 'https:/ /weather- ydn-yql. media.yahoo. com/forecastrss ?location= GMXX6175& format= xml&u=c' (Couldn't resolve host name)
