FWIW, my changes to make content filtering work/faster were just that. At no stage did I intend --hardlink to stop working. If it turns out that the two are incompatible for some technical reason, then we ought to trap that fact up-front and tell the user immediately when they specify --hardlink as an option, not fail silently.
