This is a new feature request; I think its an important thing to support. It won't hugely increase the command-line scripting accessibility, but it will reduce the amount of hits you'd need to look at. I'm planning on a couple of new internal indices to support date lookups; this will probably need some api work on the index layer too, to allow range requests.
