F9 is just masked by default by exposé's configuration. It can only really be fixed by a user changing their system configs. On macbooks, thats perfectly acceptable, as the unmodified "f3" key activates exposé on the macbook/macbook pro's.
I'm running byobu 2.74 over ssh on CentOS, and none of the F-keys except F9 work in mac terminal (they do work fine in gnome terminal from an Ubuntu 10.04 instance)
