Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

The cube effect on compiz on my default feisty beta install didn't work. A little poking around (= me installing gnome-compiz-manager) showed that the cube effect had only one desktop enabled.

This can't possibly be the default behavior for compiz...and besides, there's no easy way for the user to fix it unless gnome-compiz-manager is installed. Is there a good reason why the system doesn't come with gnome-compiz-manager by default?

Same here. I think gnome-compiz-manager should be default. This would also give the user some more options.

in my case the cube first worked, but after swithching back and forth between "desktop effects" it decided to display only one side of the cube.
works fine with the the compiz manager

The cube not working issue is a bug that has been reported a number of times:

A workaround that doesn't involve installing gnome-compiz-manager can be found in this comment (although the manager is perfectly valid as well):

There are a number of reasons the gnome manager is not available by default, most of which are regarding the fact users can really screw up their set-up with the advanced features available on it. The manager is great, but not suitable for novice users. It is assumed that users who want this sort of thing are able to install it themselves without difficulty.
