Bug Description

After upgrading to the precise version, when viewing the "Get Add-ons" screen in the main menu, it says "Could not connect to server". However tcpdump doesn't show any attempt to make any outgoing connections that I can see.

It doesn't seem to like my http_proxy for some reason. If I unset http_proxy, then it works.

brian@andean:~$ echo $http_proxy
http://proxy.pri:3128/

The proxy works fine for other programs.

I've tested this on a fresh Precise installation and it works for me - maybe the server was just temporarily down.

Could you please check if you can reach the address <http://trainsimframework.org/common/packages.dat> from your Web browser?

I can reach the address http://trainsimframework.org/common/packages.dat but it doesn't belongs anymore to OpenBVE. Instead it opens a webpage full of ads. Is there another server running, and how can I change the address in OpenBVE settings?

I could not confirm the bug when it was filed; in these months, the main programmer left the project and let the domain expire.

Right now, there is a community-maintained version of OpenBVE at http://www.openbve.org/; one of the other developers continues to maintain the official version at http://odakyufan.zxq.net/openbve/index.html. Work is in progress to coordinate and continue development of the simulator.

It is not possible, unfortunately, to change the address in OpenBVE settings; you'll have to download and run the new version manually, or wait for a new package version to be released (I can speak with Paul Sladen, the package maintainer, about that).

For programmers, there is possible way. I downloaded the source code of the old version (1.4.1.2) from "http://openbve.org". I found in the file formMain.GetAddOns.cs variables "urls []" and "names []", that's contain's the old page. The new set of accessories ("urls []") is "http://railsimroutes.net/packages.dat" and the page ("names []") is "railsimroutes.net". It works. For non-programmers I put a modified game to "http://jakubvanekpc.wz.cz/openbve/OpenBVE-NoInstaller.zip"

Hi Jakub and Ariel,
thanks for your messages (especially, thanks for the link to the Debian bug report).

We're talking about two different bugs here - the original reporter said he could not connect to the add-ons repository when he was using a proxy server; at that time, the old trainsimframework.org website was still running. On the contrary, you are both reporting that the URL for the remote repository has changed - that's another problem.

For this reason, I have clarified a bit this bug report and opened a new one (bug #1034511) to keep track of the "URL change" necessity in the code - please leave comments relating to the URL change there.

Setting the bug status back to New as only the original reporter could reproduce the problem so far.

Moin,

also der Bug exestiert schon länger...
Ich habe einmal die ZIP-Datei angehängt, dort ist in einer Datei die Verbesserung erhalten, bloß wie lädt man eigentlich solche Verbesserung auf den Server?

This attachment doesn't seem to be a patch, rather a zip file of the trusty branch of openbve. As such I am unsubscribing the ubuntu-sponsors team.
