Bug Description

Unity 5.10.0-0ubuntu6
Compiz 1:0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1

Normally, dragging a window up to the panel will maximise the window and a glowing effect covers the workspace to communicate to the user that the window will cover the area that has the glowing effect. However, dragging a window to the panel while in the workspace switching view makes the glowing effect cover all of the workspaces instead of only the workspace that the window will be maximised on.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Press Super+S to go to the workspace switching view
2. drag a non-maximized window to the top panel to maximize it.

What happens:
A orange glow covers the entire 4 workspaces

What should actually happen:
The orange glow only covers the workspace it is maximized on or maximizing windows in the workspace switching view should be disabled since it would not be possible to maximize an application in the 3rd and 4th workspace.

I have attached a video.

This is related to bug 907572 in that the behavior is funky and should really just be disabled entirely.

Changed in compiz (Ubuntu):

affects: unity → compiz-grid-plugin

I wonder if this is just a plugin rendering order problem. If we can ensure the grid's glow effect only renders on the current viewport (hence little viewport preview in expo) then we don't need to disable anything.

Well, speaking from a user expectation standpoint, one enters expo in order to move windows to different workspaces, not to resize the windows.

I agree. I personally would not mind disabling grid if/while the screen is transformed.

However if it's equally simple to keep functionality in a more logical form (grid not rendering over expo), then it's better to avoid disabling/removing any feature. Because someone will always get upset...
