Mouse/trackpad clicks do not work with Glipper

Glipper works fine if I launch it with the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-alt-C) and I can then use the mouse to select from the ill ring or clear, change preferences, etc. But if I launch by clicking on the menubar G icon, the menu appears but selections from the menu are ignored.

I am using 2.1 with ubuntu 11.10, Unity interface. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks.
