can't compose all characters

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

While I can enter a character like ĝ (g with circumflex) in Konsole by typing compose, ^, g, the same doesn't work with gnome-terminal. And, as I just found out, Firefox.

I need these characters, but want to keep using a US Dvorak keyboard layout. Is there a way to fix compose, or perhaps another way to enter these characters?

What do you mean "to fix compose"? What compose key do you use the system, preferences, keyboard, options? Does it work with gedit?

By "fixing compose" I meant making it work with all characters that I
can compose in KDE applications.

I use the right alt key for compose.

Compose works with Gnome apps, including gedit, but only for some
characters. So far, the characters that do work, have all been in the
iso-8859-15 range. In KDE apps, I can also compose characters like the g
with acute accent.

Some composed characters that work in both kwrite+console and gedit+gnome-terminal:
ae - æ
"o - ö
"u - ü
th - þ
e= - €
(c - © # note that this is "(c" in GNOME programs, but "(c)" in KDE programs

Some composed characters that work only in the KDE programs, but not in the GNOME programs:
^g - ĝ
^h - ĥ
^c - ĉ
^s - ŝ
bu - ŭ
(5) - ⑤

Firefox behaves likes the gnome-programs.

Pasting the characters does work, just composing them is broken.

not a gnome-terminal bug if that happens with gedit also. Does it happen with KDE applications under GNOME?

Indeed this bug is probably wider than gnome-terminal.

I can compose these characters fine in KDE programs that run under GNOME.

This looks like bug #74360. A lot of compose key sequences don't work any more. It's an X11 problem, and I believe it to be specific to Ubuntu because these sequences worked for me on a Gentoo installation I was using until last year.
