Bug Description

I own a diNovo Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. It is
a USB wireless kind of. It is bluetooth compatible but no bluetooth
is required to be configured. E.g. it is working also with plain BIOS.

After starting Ubuntu Feisty x64 desktop version (Live CD or installed on HDD)
there is no keyboard or mouse available.

Plugging out and again in the wireless USB dongle corrects the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the full output of 'dmesg' as an attachment to your bug report after booting your system? Thanks in advance.

I see some (I suppose correct) USB messages in the dmesg file but the keybaord/mouse are not
working until taking the dongle out and putting then back again. If more infos are needed please let me know.

I imagine the dmesg file is from after you have reconnected the keyboard and mouse is that correct?

Yes... otherwise I cannot do anything with the computer.

I tried something different. I used in the same time with the
Logitech diNovo a regular corded Logitech USB mouse and it is worked.
The diNovo was as before not functional until a plugin-plugout.

I also tried out the Sabayon Linux Live with 2.6.20 kernel and seamed
to be OK. That is the reason way I have two proposals:
- change the title of the bug: it is not USB related just "Logitech
wireless" related. I do not think also that is bluetooth related.
- I think that the bug has more to do with the order of the startup
services than with the kernel. That because of the Sabayon.

This is a work around:
"A quick search around the Internet and it turns out that using the Synaptic Package Manager to remove 'bluez-utils' solves the problem."

works great if you do that!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Now that the 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon release of Ubuntu is out, we were wondering if you can still reproduce this issue. Could you please download and try the new version of Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and report back your results. If the issue is still present in the new release, please attach the following information:

* uname -a > uname-a.log
* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment. For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

Using Gutsy, the problem is still there for me.
I have to unplug/plug the USB hub to get the keyboard to work.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the kernel. It would be helpful if you could test the latest Hardy Alpha release: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. Thanks.

Unfortunately the situation remains the same for me:
After reboot no keyboard or mouse until I take out and I re-plug the USB
dongle. It was in (my opinion) never a kernel problem. On other Linuxes in
works since a very long time without any problem. I think that is more
related to the bluetooth service.

Hi vedw,

Could you reattach your dmesg output when running the Hardy kernel and after you have to reconnect the keyboard and mouse. I'm just curious what messages may appear for the newer kernel. Thanks.
