It may not work, as im-config vs im-switch

Hi Pitt,

It was tested that version 1:4.2.2-1 with other packages up-to-date in Sid can work in Ubuntu Precise directly, so syncing this package will require syncing other packages which versions were falling behind of Debian.

Actually version 1:4.1.2-2 and higher will work a lot better than the current version for Qt applications, as there was a but in im-switch. Upstream of im-switch has asked IBus, Fcitx and some others to work around the problem, since he doesn't want to make more changes to it. (Yes, IBus needs a similar simple fix for Qt applications, too.)

A list of packages need update:
fcitx-chewing 0.1.0-1 -> 0.1.1-1 (need M-A enabled libchewing)
fcitx-cloudpinyin 0.2.0-2 -> 0.2.1-1
fcitx-configtool 0.4.0-2 -> 0.4.1-1
fcitx-fbterm 0.1.2-2 -> 0.1.3-1
fcitx-googlepinyin 0.1.4-2 -> 0.1.5-1
fcitx-keyboard 0.1.0-1 -> 0.1.2-1
fcitx-sunpinyin 0.3.3-1 -> 0.3.5-1
kcm-fcitx 0.3.0-1 -> 0.3.2-1

New packages introduced during the time, may need FFe to include:
fcitx-hangul 0.1.0-1
fcitx-m17n 0.1.1-1

If you agree on bumping versions of input methods, I would like to advise to include the update to sunpinyin, open-gram, opencc and libchewing. Changes:
sunpinyin: significant performance improvement
open-gram: better dict files, improve the accuracy of candidates of sunpinyin quite a lot
opencc: M-A enabled, hardending, and better handling of some command line options
libchewing: M-A enabled, various bug fixes

I can help on filing FFe and other related issues if necessary.

subscribing release team to get their opinion, even if I think we are too late in the cycle to change that. It really depends on what mean "works a lot better"...

Syncing this stack of packages affects seeded packcages, so it's too late for precise (the first one I checked, libchewing3, is on the Ubuntu DVD, so I stopped looking). For the Qt issue, it should be addressed with a more focused fix via SRU.

status: New → Won't Fix

Well, is it possible to update through "precise-updates" ?

I agree that the im-switch fix would be better off with a cherry-pick. As long as it is not entirely broken, it's much safer to do that as an SRU.

Does the new fcitx version actually require all those new packages, or are these independent? I. e. can the new versions be SRUed and tested one by one?

As now fcitx is not so stable, some module will require higher version.
