It also affects me. i have no chance to synchronize contacts from thunderbird to ubuntu one. and now all contact email adresses are gone. im really pissed off.

i found a message on. ask ubuntu:
Ubuntu One contacts sync has integration with Thunderbird in Ubuntu 11.10. The following instructions explain how to setup contacts sync in Ubuntu 11.10 with Thunderbird and use Ubuntu One contacts in Thunderbird.

Setup contacts sync

Open the Ubuntu One Control Panel Click on the services tab Click the "Install now" button Enter your Ubuntu password when prompted Click the "Install now" button under the "Enable Contacts Sync" section Copy contacts to Ubuntu One from Thunderbird ... bla, bla, bla, bla

But there is no install now button!!! You don't believe, so see the comment from another user on ask ubuntu:

I'm sorry, but I think you didn't read my post. It says I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2. 12.04 ships with the new Ubuntu One client. There is no "Enable Contacts Sync" in the new Ubuntu One client. So this is not a duplicate at all. An I still can't get my contacts. Please reopen it an help me. – user52660 Apr 2 at 20:50

Me too, installed thunderbird-couchdb, after that found an option 'ubuntu one' in thunderbirds 'directory server' option, could also select that, but the option every time bounces back to 'Addressbook' and no ubuntu one contacts can be seen.

Since 12.04 cant't synchonize Contacts between Ubuntuone and Thunderbird. At least i lost all of my contact files!!! Im really pissed off. And in 12.04 UbuntuOne Preferences there is no function to activate Synchronizing contact ... so what the hell is going wrong? in AskUbuntu there is also no answer for this issue!

Ubuntu One support told me that there have been some delays implementing a new architecture (migrating the backend from couchdb to their replacement u1db I assume)... and that currently contact sync is disabled in 12.04 but it will return once the issues have been addressed.

I'm a little worried that this will be like the mobile contact sync, which was removed pending a "better solution" a year ago, but hasn't been seen since... to be fair, that service was never officially launched so perhaps this is different. Either way, it's gonna be really irritating for me since I considered the Ubuntu One contact database to be my "master" source for contacts.

I really hope this is fixed soon... but if anything, open and frequent communication about the status of the service and the plans would go a long way towards making people happier... and this is IMO, absolutely the last time Canonical can afford to have an outage measured in weeks, or months... if a feature on Azure or iCloud was down for a month there would be outrage!
