Bug Description

Hello.
Not so much debug info - I install updates, reboot and nothing happens afters grub - I still see grub splash screen.
Ctrl+Alt+Del of ACPI soft off does not works.
Cold reboot allow me new try: I removed "quiet" and "splash" options from kernel command line, so now I see no grub splash screen, only one blinking cursor in top left corner of 80x25 text screen.
I did not see any message like 'loading kernel...' or 'loading init rad disk...' so perhaps it is grub-related issue too.
There were no common HDD led activity, so look like it hangs on very eraly stage.

Motherboard model: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P

Perhaps, related with #972173

Please ignore the previous comment. That is for an i386 issue.

Hi Bogdan, I see in your description that you already tried to remove the quiet and splash options, can you try to follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot, "Boot Options", doing also the step 5. there and see if it improves things (see some relevant messages).

Also your bug shouldn't be the same as others are having on i386 recently, and I assume booting back to 3.0.0-17.30 makes everything works again?

Hello!

Yes, boot with 3.0.0-17.30 kernel makes everything works again.
I'll debug kernel boot tonight.

Hi Bogdan, could you please test the kernel at http://people.canonical.com/~henrix/lp973111/ ? We suspect you're hitting a bug that has been already fixed with the extra commit in this test kernel: c9651e70ad0aa499814817cbf3cc1d0b806ed3a1, "ASPM: Fix pcie devices with non-pcie children".

This kernel boots too, so I hope bug is fixed.

Thanks for testing, as the testing kernel from comment #6 above worked, this should be the same as bug 961482, marking as duplicate of it. And yes, kernel 3.0.0-19-generic incorporates the same fix.
