screen goes blank at login

Bug Description

just before boot up gets to the login screen with user name and password the screen goes blank, never comes back on. This happened after a new install of ubuntu 7.04, the second boot after installing the updates.

If you are using the free nv driver for nvidia cards, please check if this is a duplicate of bug #96833
