Bug Description

Binary package hint: restricted-manager

I wanted to install ATI drivers using Restricted Drivers manager.

Restricted Drivers managers correctly detects my ATI display card and shows empty checkboxes "enable" and "use" next to it.

First I click "enabled" checkbox. The installer is run.

After this I am in state where enabled checkbox is checked and use checkbox is empty.

I click use checkbox, becase I feel that "of course I want use this driver after installation".

Nothing happens. I click again. Nothing happens again. I click the checkbox until I faint.

The real reason behind this logic is that your computer needs restart after enabling the driver. But this is not told to the user clearly enough and they get confused.

Maybe a text "Driver will be available after restart" could replace non-functional empty "use" checkbox?

Indeed. My plan is to replace the 'in use' checkbox with a textual explanation.

   * restricted-manager: Drop 'In Use' checkboxes which could not be operated
anyway and were confusing for too many users. Replace them with a 'status'
text, saying 'In use', 'Needs computer restart', or nothing. (LP: #95901)
   * RestrictedManager/nvidia.py, legacy driver: Enable AllowGLXWithComposite.
