Bug Description

I have two sets of keyboard shortcuts that I change from the defaults:
- ALT-T to open a terminal
- ALT-<N> to switch to workspace <N>

In unity 3d, when I logout and then login again, they no longer work. I go to the keyboard shortcut preferences, and they are still there. To get them to work again, I have to:
- disable the shortcut with the backspace key
- set it again to my desired value

Then it works as long as I don't logout again.

I can reproduce this on two separate PCs that have upgraded from Oneiric to precise. In my case it's the navigation shortcuts that I set. They work fine as soon as they're set, but stop functioning if I log out and log in again.

I doubt if this is Unity related. Seems more to be GNOME Session related to me. Can you check if this can be reproduced in a session running GNOME Shell or Unity 2D?

Unity 2D is what I have happily been using since I opened this bug.

I have the same problem with the gnome fallback session.
It is *really* annoying that alt-f7 is reset to initiate move window.
When trying to change it via ccsm it is directly reset in the session. When changed by gconf-editor, /apps/compiz-1/plugins/move/screen0/options/initiate_key it works at least for the current session and is reset after re-login. (But the value in the key /apps/compiz-1/plugins/move/screen0/options/initiate_key still keeps beeing empty, I have to open gconf-editor and touch the value again to gain an effect)

You should try to create a new user account and see if things work fine there for you. Feels to me like some user specific issue that would go away in a new user.

I have the same problem. I set Ctrl-Alt-E for Emacs shortcut. But user defined shortcuts never works as expected. As Andreas mentioned you need to disable and set it again to make it work.

Hi,

This is happening but not at every login: I'm not yet able to trigger the problem consistently, but last time it happened I restarted lightdm to make unity work again and when I logged in the shortcuts were gone. This is happening at least twice a week since I upgraded from Precise to Quantal, and I can confirm the same problem happens in another different machine, also recently upgraded to Quantal. I have defined a shortcut to open xterm (another than the Open Terminal one), and it persists, but all the others I customized, such as moving between workspaces or toggle maximization state are gone.

Please, let me know if I can provide any other information.

Cheers,

I can confirm this behaviour on two entirely different laptops, both installed pre-release and then upgraded to final quantal.
Creating a new user does not help in any way.

This appears to be the fault of gsettings-data-convert. Deleting /etc/xdg/autostart/gsettings-data-convert.desktop fixes this issue for me.

I have the problem with other settings apart from keyboard shortcuts on different machines as well.
(Focus behaviour, window raise behaviour)
Will try deleting the file data-confert file as well.

thanks Tom, deleting /etc/xdg/autostart/gsettings-data-convert.desktop fixed it for me too.

I don't think gsettings-data-convert was the cause of this bug (still there is no reason to run it on every login). This appears to be compiz' fault, and should probably be a dup of one of the following two bugs:
