Hello Johnny, or anyone else affected,

Accepted python-central into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Matthias, this is still showing up at the top of the list of crashes in the crashdb. Can you provide a step-by-step test case that we can use to check if it's fixed? Simply removing python2.6 from my system doesn't trigger the crash for me.

Manually reproduced the initial bug this way:

 - install python2.6 from a previous release on precise.
 - install the python-vm-builder package.
 - sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/python-vm-builder.list
 - sudo apt-get purge python2.6 python2.6-minimal

 - reinstalled python2.6, installed python-central from precise-proposed, confirmed that the crash is resolved.
 - removed python-vm-builder to clean up.

So I think this should be promoted to precise-updates ASAP.

Agreed Steve, this is a simple change and I would judge it as *very* low regression potential. Releasing to updates now.
