Bug Description

RJ Ryan suggested I file this as a bug report here.

It would be very useful for Mixxx to support more than one microphone input.
The following scenarios would require this:

1. A Dj with an MC can have separate mics.
2. Would make Mixxx (with 'n' deck support very useable for radio - interviews and co-hosts etc - especially when used with a control surface such as the Behringer BCF, which already works with Mixxx.

This would give Mixx something the others don't have!

I imagine this will be re-filed as appropriate?

Regards,

Rash.

Agreed .. this and VC inputs and even decks could benefit from that style
of configuration.

We could migrate if we implemented Control aliasing to alias all [Microphone] controls to [Microphone1].

Even just having the ability to combine channels on a mic would be helpful!

This and Bug #1064714 are both needed features. They are marked as duplicates but really are different.

I am not a programer but I imagine it would be easier to change the channel values to include some combined options then it would be to create another mic option.

IP Radio stations are growing in number everyday. Terrestrial radio is on the down slope and will eventually be dead. I know this program was originally created for mixing tracks for live music DJs. But, Mixxx is the best software currently available for use in an IP Radio station setup.

Please move the Importance up from "Wishlist".

I don't really agree as I see little merit in combining in software what
could easily be
done already in external hardware if one needed - without changing a line
of code!

To make Mixx useful for webcasting, or community radio it really does need
at least
one more independently (MIDI) controllable mic input. I believe the mic
on/off buttons
now latch with a double tap? This is good because it was problematic before
when
using something like a Behringer BCF as a control surface/radio mixer.

Also needs an extra player or two...I think that turned out to be a lot of
work, so I
don't think it got finished, so no suitable skin.

RE: making N-channel microphones I agree we should just have multiple microphones in Mixxx rather than an N-channel single microphone. That way you can enable talkover on them separately, have separate volumes/gains for each one, etc.

@Rash -- Mixxx 1.12.0 will have 4-decks. The code has been in place since 1.9.0 but the GUI was too inflexible. So in 1.12.0 we have a skin template system that makes this much easier :).

BTW, before control aliasing is implemented for 1.12.0 we could easily just add a 2nd or 3rd mic input. That should give people a temporary solution before we can alias [Microphone] to [Microphone1]. Any objections?

milestone: none → 1.12.0

I see no problem adding more mics, it's practically a variable change. Why not make it four? One mic per channel!

oh hm, and adding mics will create a bunch of skin issues. If users can pre-amplify their mic levels, aux connections would work fine.

USB mixers show up at 1 mic (my usb mixer has 4 channels). some programs like SAM broadcaster do not give you the ability to select a channel they are all active. Which is great because we can use multiple mics or line in devices on our mixer and to the program its all the same.

I don't know if pointing that out helps anyone, but I thought it might.

If it was setup that way in mixxx no skin changes would need to be made.

TheVoiceOfLawrence : Currently we don't support more channels than stereo for inputs. While it's tempting to throw a hack in that would just take >2 and downmix them to mono, we may find someone who wants to do the same trick but with stereo pairs of microphones (6 channels, 3 stereo mics) and so downmixing to mono would not do what they want. I think in the end, the right path is treat them for what they are -- separate microphone inputs.
