Bug Description

Binary package hint: streamtuner

Ubuntu told me that it crashed. I don't know how though, because it told me when I powered on.
Stream tuner has been crashing ever since I installed when I try to do a search in SHOUTcast.

I have:
version 0.99.99

For me too, Streamturner crashes when I try to do a search for SHOUTcast radio streams.

I like Streamtuner; I just made a PayPal donation. I hope these bugs get fixed soon.

for example always on shoutcast, when i click on "reload" and then "search" it close the program. This happens only with shoutcast for me.

What can we do to prevent this from happening? I think Streamturner is a worthy concept, but it contains bugs that lead to the application crashing. Has this project been abandoned?

What can we do to help get the bugs fixed?

The application didn't receive updates for several years. Chances are, the
author doesn't care anymore - so unless a volunteer programmer steps in,
nothing can be done.

Not completely true. Canonical changed the pre-set player on streamtuner to be audacious, i.e. when you get streamtuner from synaptic it automatically install audacious with its plugins. So, somebody is doing something, but they are not doing a good job. It is audacious that is interfering with streamtuner. Audacious by itself does not play under jaunty at all. It is a horrible ugly application. XMMS is what is needed. I am using it now with xmms (also being ignored for some stupid reason) and it works fine as long as you wipe out all files under ".streamtuner" every time. Also, whoever did the audacious change messed up the stream categories. The author does not care. We need Canonical's programmers to look at this right now. We need more postings so they pay attention.

How can you verify that it's Canonical and not Debian?

I too have had this problem with the last few versions of Ubuntu (Currently Jaunty). Every time I attempt to search, streamtuner crashes. There are other things that make it crash also. I am highly fond of this program and wish it to be repaired, though I have no ability to do so. It began as an issue in either Feisty or Gutsy for me.

Let me throw my hat in. I have been a Streamtuner user for years. I am "upgrading" from PPC architecture which I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and Streamtuner runs perfectly. This is a great app for me and I am hoping that Canonical fixes it. Are there any workarounds so that I can keep all my station bookmarks in the meantime?

I really like this application, but nothing has been done to fix these crashes. This is such useful application. I love the idea of consolidating all radio steams from all sources, under one gui, where you can quickly change channels and search for channels.

Is there any other alternative until this gets fixed? Nothing else I've found attempts to put so many radio streams together.

BTW, I've even donated money to the streamtuner project via paypal:
http://www.nongnu.org/streamtuner/

Perhaps more of use should do this, so that the developers are rewarded for getting this working right in ubuntu (for us). The concept is worth donating to in my opinion.

I just read this from the author's web page:

"I am no longer working on streamtuner. At the time of this writing (December 3, 2007), the latest release still works well (except for the Live365 support), but it is unlikely that there will be another release of streamtuner in its current form."

Also, there is a new repository you can add. It will update your streamtuner
via automatic updates there after. Again, I will look for the source, so
until then, please search for it.

By what method may we ensure that these updates (that aggravatedGestalt mentioned) will be provided automatically in Ubuntu 10.04?

By adding them/it to your repositories and/if you have set your system for
automatic updates (this is usually done by default), it will update just as
all other updates do. You can either click/tick/select-unselect it, or
whatever you want. Please visit this very helpful link (for which I bleed
appreciation) <
http://tazbuntu.blogspot.com/2008/10/shoutcast-bug-in-streamtuner.html> and
if you wish to take the shortcut as I did, scroll down to the <Download
Plugin> link, and I think you should be very near enjoying streamtuner. I
hope this helps. I personally LOVE this program, and value it highly.
G'luck!
PS: It was a while ago whenst I did all of this, so if I've made any errors,
please reply, and I will try again.
