Can you provide a screen shot? It's working for some, so whatever problem you're experiencing is not universal.

Scott, did you run it from the livecd?

The shortcuts do not work on the livecd when "trying it out"

it "works" (but still is an headache inducing mess) when installed.

This netbook interface needs to not be default.

(I don't have that live usb drive anymore, I can't do anything with it! I can't get the broadcom drivers to work so I can't give you a screen shot anyway)

Try it from the livecd.

I've now tried it from a live CD and it's much like it always was. There seems to be a wifi driver detection issue and I can't get desktop effects working from the live CD, but those have nothing to do with plasma-netbook.

ok, maybe we can change this bug to there is no link to system settings or a terminal in the live cd netbook interface for kubuntu.

It may not be plasma netbooks fault per se, but it is a problem with the live cd not having any usefull links, and no obvious help to do anything.

The netbook interface off of the netbook live usb /cd is unusable.

If somebody wants the plasma netbook confusion to be default, ok, I need to make my own distro, but look, it could be made usable and I don't know what package is responsible for the desktop layout for kubuntu.

I filed bugs with KDE because they don't have a way to set default behavior (easily, there are installation specific settings mixed in with preferences in their config files)

Is this a bug with the kubuntu-desktop package? does it set up the desktop and the shortcuts and links?

I don't see how to change the description, I am sorry if it is inflammatory. politely: I was very very very frustrated trying to do basic tasks from the livecd on a netbook.

@scott, it was broken in 11.10 as well... I think it has been broken since the netbook interface popped up. This go around (12.04) I knew roughly what to look for.

This interface is not discoverable and is so very very hard to use. Ironically the kde desktop also uses screen space more effectively on a netbook. So, We just need shortcuts to system settings and some help or switch back to desktop and I will be able to use the computer. I really really need the netbook interface to be more like the 8.04 8.10 inteface where it actually helped. Making me move the cursor all over the place to huge icons that waste screen space is not efficient.

If I haven't driven everyone off, I have some ideas that can help make the interface more usable, but right now it gives me a headache

Plasma netbook as we present it is very close to upstream KDE (we add a few
additional widgets in the panel and the install icon in favorites in the live
session). If you want to give input on improving the KDE netbook experience,
I think KDE is the best place to do it.

The one bit about the favorites being missing in the live session is probably fixable in kubuntu-meta, so this is a good package for the bug.
