The problem is that the screenshot I've attached is from a unity-2d session, maybe this is a light-theme issue ?

@Doug McMahon: Check my first comment. The problem occurs for me on unity-3d also, and I'm quite sure it's compiz problem :) after upgrade it occured to me

Žilvinas, he doesn't mean bug 933615 where he already reported it's dupe bug 933680.

Attempt to copy and paste a file to desktop, the paste option is disabled in context menu.
Also cut and paste to desktop doesn't work.
Moving the file by mouse drag works. This is on unity-3d. (video)

It's either a Nautilus or Dbus issue. Either way Unity/Compiz has nothing to do with this.

Just to clear up if need be - among other things I'd starting seeing this on my A2/upgraded install so did a fresh install today from current image & happened to notice it was occurring at random. So then filed this report from new install.

IIRC there was a number of libdbus* updates the other day, I don't remember this happening before that (maybe libdbusmenu*

Also to re-affirm, this happens on unity3d & 2d, haven't spent enough time recently in gnome* to say.

Today copy, move and paste to desktop works via context menu.
On random text or .png files the option 'rename' is greyed out but allows to rename.

Example video with .crash file. After restarting nautilus the option isn't greyed out.
No idea how to reproduce perhaps related with these lines from .xsession-errors?

what is this bug about? it mixes comments from users who have:

- the menus rendered with no content
- the menus items not active when they should
- segfault

like there is no way to work on a bug which goes in random direction, please open different bugs for each specific issue

re opening because numerous users are still reporting the same on at least unity & unity-2d
The bug is just as described, screen in description & 2 vids in comments 9 & 13

The most common valid options greyed out are 'paste' & 'rename' , less common is 'paste into folder'
In all cases the option is click-able & will execute
The view set in nautilus has no bearing on this, I only use icon

Noting again this happens on occasion, there is no way I've seen to cause at will, may just be one of those things that goes away or doesn't

Not sure - this bug seems to be one of several 'random' (don't think
anything is really random), breakdowns on 12.04 atm with no way to cause
at will.

As far as that bug, at least here can't dupe at all, renaming followed
by C&P in list view works fine, has that bug been re-confirmed on a
recent install?

As far as this bug not that big a deal, the option that is greyed out
does work, the tendency of most users when it happens is to try it
anyway so more a matter of appearances than function

that bug was opened first bug since bug #973491 is already tracked for precise marking that one duplicate of the most recent one, did anyone get the issue under a GNOME session or with another theme (i.e adwaita)? I noticed the bug without appmenu in use so it's probably not due to it
