Bug Description

When a menu is closed, its shadow remains on the screen. It appears on all workspaces and can't be got rid of. This leads to ugly "ghosting" of menus.

This occurs on both indicator menus (including the global menu) and other menus (e.g. context menus in Firefox.)

Just to clarify, this also appears to be occurring with tooltips in Firefox, although with these only the latest one continues to cast its ghosted shadow.

The shadows appear above all other windows on all desktops.

Open nautilus, click on appmenu to view any drop down option, closing it leaves artefact.
Open gedit, close via window button, leaves artefact, although not reproducable while running recordmydesktop.

Actually it's a hidden user survey - most clicks are on upper space on desktop.

are you experiencing ghost menus with compiz 1:0.9.7.0~bzr2995-0ubuntu3 ?
The patch that caused this in -ubuntu2 has been reverted.

Sorry for the confusion. The ghosting (persistent shadow is still there).

I'm trying to update to compiz 1:0.9.7.0~bzr2995-0ubuntu3 but the package (along with epiphany-extensions) is being held back. I double-checked and I have all of the dependencies, but it's telling me that I would need to uninstall ubuntu-desktop to upgrade it!
