Could you please check if the file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.debian.apt.conf exists. If so could you please attach it here. Thanks. Do you get this error every time you try to install something or just one time?

Please see the attached file.

I had the error a total of 3 times while installing updates using synaptic,
other times the error did not repeat itself so I wasn't able to find
consistencies.

Sorry, I have not seen that the packageKit interface is affected. Could you please attach the following files if they exist:

/etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.PackageKit-aptd.conf
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.PackageKit.conf

Thanks

Unfortunately the files you are requesting no longer exist, I've had a host
machine crash and lost the virtual machine.
I will, however, reinstall and attempt to reproduce the the problem.

Hi, I am having the same problem. That is, my Ubuntu freezes, or shuts down unexpectedly or restarts unexpectedly. I was following this thread and am therefore attaching the file which was mentioned here.

/etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.debian.apt.conf

on my system.

It seems like this has not been reproduced on quantal (according to comments here, duplicates, and errors.ubuntu.com). Has anyone experienced this on quantal?
