Bug Description

This is a very annoying issue. My touchpad is detected as a mouse so I don't get extra options to turn of the touchpad while typing (palm detect). I searched everywhere for a possible fix and I didn't find any :(, since this machine has a Syanptic , cypress touchpad (based on drivers that are installed for WIndows).
I really hope the Ubuntu driver team can find a solution for this ..

Just a note: the Project Sputnik driver also works on the U300s. Unfortunately their kernel doesn't include the suspend/resume patch also needed on the U300s. Still, at least you have the option of building a custom kernel with both patchsets.

Hi,
Is this the same bug as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/978807 ?
Does it mean we'll have a fix for Precise released soon?

Siraj Razick, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Unfortunately, I don't have this laptop any more with me, since it broke some time ago, so I wont be able to
test this bug :(.
