Bug Description

After recent updates on login pressing enter at the point of intersection to desktop the greeter graphics corrupt badly.
In between those one or two seconds on top there're would display four kind of frames with diagonal lines or the greeter separates in two windows with inbox on the right vertical lines in the middle and plane colour on the left.
Since it is really difficult to describe any idea how to make a screenshot would be appreciated (no I don't have a digital camera nor a mobile phone).

Bug 933322 incl. some images of the issue.

See the same on nvidia, can also show poor behavior if there are multiple users, the initial image after can be corrupted & show other users backgrounds

Changed in unity-greeter (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

See the same on i386, ATI-AGP. shows bits and pieces of default bg and my users bg.
Two different installs on same hardware showing very similar behavior.
One install upgraded from Onieric, One install only 4-5 days old.

If you are using a multiboot then which install grub-pc is configured on can change things & there is some possible crossover from 11.10 to 12.04 or 12.04 to 11.10 (here i currently have 11.10, 12.04, 12.04 with grub configured on the middle 12.04

For example i just spent some time in 11.10. when exiting I saw the 'montage' from 12.04
When restarting into the 2nd 12.04, instead of the corrupted or montage I got a perfectly good 11.10 greeter screen after entering the password. (it even said Ubuntu 11.10 in lower left.

I'm seeing a screen corruption on login very similar to the one shown in the screen-shot of Bug #933322.

A 'clean' install of Precise.
Grub has the last 3 PP kernels listed 3.2.0-15 → 17 only.
No other versions of Ubuntu or any other OS's are installed on this machine.
Currently, only one user + guest account is available via greeter.

Ati graphics card (X1600 [?]), no-propriety drivers in use.
