Bug Description

For the Daniel Folkeshteyn Other Packages Update:

This error results:
Failed to fetch http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt/pool/main/f/firefox-mozilla-build/firefox-mozilla-build_10.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb Got a single header line over 360 chars

It says to check the internet connection which works fine like for this bug reporting.

All other updates still and do download with no problem.

12 Updates were listed of which the one update above was still part of this. 11 of those updates downloaded and installed but, the same one, Daniel Folkeshteyn Other Packages Update, still gets the same error of http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt/pool/main/f/firefox-mozilla-build/firefox-mozilla-build_10.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb Got a single header line over 360 chars. The linux-image-3.0.0.0.16 and Linux header files downloaded just fine and installed amongst the 11 updates that did work of which were other firefox files.

I did download those firefox files via my browser but, I can't get Ubuntu's Software Manager nor its Update Manager to "take" them. With Mandriva Linux, its RPM Manager does effortlessly take any such update files downloaded from the web. I have learned to rely on or to just use RPM only to do such things. Installing software on my own without RPM doesn't work. I bet its the same with Ubuntu also where I must use its software installing system as evidenced by the db triggers being processed.

As such, opening the file firefox-mozilla-build_10.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb (which I downloaded) with Software Manager does not work. It just hangs with the processing animation, for hours. Update Manager has no way to read from a downloaded file but just archive mirror sites of which I tried specifying that http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt/pool/main/f/firefox-mozilla-build/firefox-mozilla-build_10.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb?r=&ts=1329168082&use_mirror=superb-sea2 site as an APT Deb site but, it won't accept it as such (OK set to sensitive) or it tries to process it but, gets the same internet connectivity error.

So, this update is unprocessable now. Unless theres a way to get the software management of Ubuntu to use it. I have noticed here that I can issue sudo get-apt package names, on Ubuntu. Is there a package name for this update that I can use with sudo?

Well you can download the file to your desktop and then run the dpkg command like this:

sudo dpkg -i /path/to/file

That should install it.

It did install:
howard@howard-PW532AA-ABA-SR1403WM-NA521:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i firefox-mozilla-build_10.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
[sudo] password for howard:

But Update Manager still thinks that the same non working update us needed:
Changes for the versions:
Installed version: 10.0-0ubuntu1
Available version: 10.0.1-0ubuntu1

This update does not come from a source that supports changelogs.

So, the update appears to be 10.0.1-0ubuntu1 but, what was installed from downloading it via the browser is 10.0-0ubuntu1. Or, whats installed is still not up to date?

so, I downloaded via browser http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt/pool/main/f/firefox-mozilla-build/firefox-mozilla-build_10.0.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb and then ran sudo dpkg -i firefox-mozilla-build_10.0.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb and Update Manager now says that there is no more updates to install! Thanks for your sudo help!

downloading problem "failed to fetch" via Update Manager still was not solved though. The workaround did work.

I would suggest taking that source off your list. The one provided in launchpad is compatible. There is one for a stable firefox and an unstable.
