Bug Description

I've got a bug. It is appeared just now ( 31.01.2012) and I hadn't had this bug before. When I have enabled plugin Cube reflection and deformation my ALT+TAB switcher, if I use it, crash unity and I have to restart my computer in order to fix it.
You can try it but enabling all cube reflection and deformation plugin.

P.S. This is my first serious bug, what additional info I had attach to invesigate this issue ?

UPDATE: This bug appears to be even after fresh Ubuntu 11.10 installation without any compiz effects enabled.

I need to +1 this bug, although I don't have cube reflection and deformation enabled. I only have the desktop cobe and cube rotate enabled, and compiz crashes if alt+tab is used. This started after the updates to Unity on or about January 30, 2011.

Update. This alt+tab crash also appear if I had extra animations enabled. Though I think this latest Unity updates crashed the whole compiz thing. I just turned off all extra compiz for a while. The only solution I found right now.

Also I want to add that I make a fresh install of Ubuntu now, because was thinking that I am the only one who has such issue, I saw that Unity crashed EVEN with the clear install if I press Alt+tab. not confirmed but It was reseted once when I tested it.

I'm probably seeing the same bug. After installing and updating Ubuntu 11.10 yesterday I have a 100% reproducible crash on Alt+Tab. I didn't do any compiz configuration though…

I wonder if the current bug is related to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/876198

thatguruguy (thatguruguy) The bug that you linked is related to the time responding in expo workspaces using cube. (Well at least this is how I understood it) so I think no, the bug that I reported here is not a duplicate of that bug. Though maybe the bug in Workspaces has the same problem as in ALT+TAB switcher.
I think the whole compiz just crashed cause of Unity update.

Update: Also I still get ALT+TAB crash when i am NOT using any compiz effects.

Nikita: I only get this crash when cube is enabled. If I switch to desktop wall, I don't have the crash.

The bug I linked to involved a redraw of the screen when the cube is rotated, causing a "flicker." This case appears to involve some kind of race condition, in which the desktop is being "respawned too quickly" when alt-tab is used. I wonder if an intended fix to the "flicker" issue is related to the current bug.

You state that you still get the crash when not using any compiz effects. Does that mean you get the crash when using the Unity2D desktop, or something else?

When I use default Unity settings alt+tab swirtcher cause crash, Unity 3D, haven't tried it with Unity2D but here is more interesting fact. My alt+tab switcher crashes ONLY ONCE on booting system, means that If I use it multiple times after it, it doesn't however on the first boot Unity crashes.

I simply have no idea what causes the problem. For the very first time, before the installation, cube rotation and deformation caused the crash, Later after returning compiz settings to default, additional animations caused alt+tab crash, Now clean install Alt+TAB first time cause crash. What did developers do with the code so it cause crash on a multiple compiz plugins.

OK, I was confused by your earlier statement that you didn't have any compiz effects turned on. It suggested to me that you aren't using compiz on your system. Since Unity 3D is a compiz plugin, if you are using Unity 3D, you are using Compiz.

When you are stating that you "aren't using any compiz effects", what do you mean, exactly? For instance, is the desktop cube enabled, or are you using Desktop Wall?

Sorry if you mis understand me, I am still confused in many things in Ubuntu =), By not using compiz I mean that I haven't install Compiz configuration System manager and haven't tweaked anything, like desktop cude and all this staff. Everything is by default using out of the box.

Now I installed it and as I see, if you go to the Unity plugin configuration and disable Alt+tab switcher thier and then enable some other switcher like Ring or any, it seems it is no longer crashing Unity.

Compiz is a default desktop manager in you system. You mean you havn't installed compiz configuration system manager and this is diffrent. As you might noticed THIS bug is aduplicate of this
