Bug Description

Since latest updates on precise empathy's indicator applet is broken. Firstly responses TO me are posted to come FROM me. So it shows my own name responding to myself instead of the person I am chatting to. And then it posts the same persons name over and over each time they type anything and press enter. The 3rd issue is that when you click on the name in the applet it does not clear it. you have to click the clear button. but that only works till the next time someone posts anything. So chatting on an IRC channel has you ending up with about 20 lines in the applet all showing MY name.

This is not fixed properly for me, only half the issue is fixed. It's still posting messages on the indicator FROM me while chatting in IRC?? The multiple messages issue is fixed though

Personally I don't think this is a duplicate of #921168.
I am seeing this here with gnome-shell, and what will happen is that I will get the normal built-in popup of the message contents, then again. If I open the bottom-right hand notification area, it shows the person's avatar and the number of missed im's. It also creates a new icon for empathy itself that seems to just bring the app forward. If I open the contact's chat log in gnome-shell, the unread indicator goes away and it shows the built-in chat log, but the empathy icon does not. If I click the icon, it opens the empathy window holding that chat. Before, the empathy icon never showed up, so only the built-in gnome-shell chat interface was in the notification area.

I just updated to 12.04 today but:
Empathy is 3.4.1-0ubuntu1
gnome-shell is 3.4.1-0ubuntu2

I will see if I can get a few images, though that might be hard to get all the popups and what not.

I'm using empathy on gnome 3 and it seems quite the same bug. This is what happens to me:

- When I send a message it comes back to me as notification.
- When I receive a message it is shown to me first as plain notification and then as gnome3 chat dialog on the bottom of the screen.

Cheers
A.

This bug is still not fixed and the duplicate status is wrong. Bug #921168 is only half of this bug. I can corroborate psypher's statement in comment #6. I am still seeing received messages as coming from myself.
