Hi, can you please follow these debug instructions, and post the resulting "openshot.debug" file to this bug report: https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1032. This certainly looks like an issue with your MLT installation, and not openshot. I would bet "melt" and "kdenlive" also fail in much the same way.

So, maybe the first thing to try is uninstalling libmlt, and then re-installing it. Also, if you install the "melt" command line, that might be useful for troubleshooting.

Thanks and Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks to report this bug.
To my mind, this bug concerns MLT Team and not Openshot himself.
And I'll said more that seems to be a problem in MLT with libavcodec53, part of ffmpeg which ignored by MLT, probably thanks to your version of ffmpeg (0.8.0).
So, I'm going to tag it like won't fix.

Hello, thank you for answering me. I'm ill, so a short repeat.

I think also, it is a problem with libavcodec53. Today there was a different reaction of my system after launching OpenShot. The failure-apport said, I had to install libvacodec53, but apt-get says, it is not possible because of missed dependencies. I'm working with an Alpha_version of 1204. I will wait few days. Perhaps then all packages are on the same level, not one new and the other old. If there is no change within a week, I write again an email. If there is nothing from me, OpenShot works.

Good bye, Michael

I have seen this same bug reported on Debian also, and I think it's related to a bug in MLT and how MLT integrates with the newest version of FFmpeg. If you look at the MLT archives (scroll to the bottom), you will see they are aware of some FFmpeg compilation problems: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=mlt-devel&max_rows=25&style=ultimate&viewmonth=201201.

I'm going to try and reproduce this error on the daily build of Ubuntu 12.04, and I'll post what I find.

Thanks!

I heard back from the MLT developers, and they say the problem is now fixed in their source code, and will soon be released. So, I would guess in the next 2 weeks (or so) a version will be available in PPAs and on Debian that work correctly with libav-related branches of FFmpeg. Thanks!
