Dynamic wallpaper change doesn't respect solid color/gradient background

If I set my user's wallpaper to solid color or a gradient, this is not reflected in the Unity Greeter and I get the default wallpaper instead.

The problem is still present in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
It is really surprising that it is not fixed yet.
Thought it was a problem related to 14.04 only.

Update : Facing the same issue in Ubuntu 14.10.

Well after 3yr. the odds of getting fixed are slim to none.
Here I just create a PNG of my chosen solid color/gradient & use that for
the background instead
