Banshee stops playing on song change to flac/ogg type files, sometime application freezes on song change (any file type)

The attached log is for a application freeze on song change. I also get "stalls" on song change to flac/ogg, but in most cases I can just move the progress slider forward and back to the start and it will continue playing. In some instances it will freeze the whole application when trying to move the progress slider.

Latest version from Precise.

Could you post your kernel version please? "uname -r" should tell you which kernel you're running.

OK running "banshee --debug 2>&1 | tee banshee-debug-log.txt" gave me an error on screen, included in banshee-onsceen-error.txt

I think I had the command wrong: running "cd ~; banshee --debug 2>&1 | tee banshee-debug-log.txt" worked fine.

First track it's hung. Log attached.

Also, could you back the contents of ~/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-01/ somewhere and move it away from ~/.config/banshee-1, then seeing if that solves the issue?

Also, please try adding --debug-addins to the Banshee command line and seeing what it spits out.

Hi Chow,

Just a quick note to add some additional log info. The attached log is on song change to flac (14:53), the track loads but does not play. Moving the position slider forward then back to beginning of song start playback. I exited the application manually.

I'll try your suggestions tomorrow and give some more feedback.

Quick update. With Precise updates as of this AM, the issues I mentioned seem to be resolved.

Will update tomorrow AM again.

@Chow Did not try your suggestions as what ever was causing this seems to be corrected. If it re-occurs I will try them and update with my findings in the AM.

Ok so some progress:

- Banshee no longer randomly hangs on song change
- Flac & mp3 files play with no problems

Confirmed reproducible behaviour:

- Song change TO song in ogg format results in banshee play "pausing". It will not start the song unless I manually move the song progress slider. The song then plays. It also stops playing after completion of the ogg file.

@chow I don't think this is a addon issue. But will try your suggestions and report back tomorrow.

Apologies for the delay in reply.

Moving ~/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-01/ out of banshee-1 directory as requested had no affect.

Attached log for the following scenario:

- Opened banshee
- Picked a mp3 to start playing
- Queued a ogg file next
- Banshee "play" hangs on song start, moving song slider starts play. (Application does not hang, the song just never starts playing)
- At the end of the ogg file the same thing happens with the next song no matter what format it is. Moving song positions slider starts the play.

Note: mp3/flac files do NOT have this problem, only ogg files.

It sounds like an issue with gapless. There was a similar bug which was forwarded upstream recently (bug #927742).

As for the moving of addin-db-001, that was for the error in banshee-onscreen-error.txt, which appears to be a completely different bug.

Bingo. Switched gapless off and was able to play mp3 > ogg > mp3 files one
after the other with no problem. Nice one, thanks.

I'll just leave this off for now. Should this be marked as a duplicate of
the bug you mentioned? Do you have the bug number?
