Bug Description

I´am on openSUSE12.1 64bit with inkscape0.48.2.

I´ve just imported a .ai file.

Then I´ve started to paint around a bit with the calligraphic painting tool.

I´ve started inkscape in debug version with gdb7.3, so I saw this warning:

** (inkscape:7440): WARNING **: Failed to create path: invalid data in dc->cal1 or dc->cal2

There was no inkscape misbehavior observable to me.

The stacktrace is short , so I post it here:

** (inkscape:7440): WARNING **: Failed to create path: invalid data in dc->cal1 or dc->cal2

not reproduced on Windows 7, Inkscape 0.48.2.
When I originally tried to open the file, I got a warning message because of the 'a umlaut' in the name, and the file preview did not work. So I removed the umlaut and the file opened normally.
- can you indicate whether the problem was caused by this specific file, or was it caused by the calligraphic tool?

A:Not until now; I am new to inkscape and have not much experience to decide. So may be both in conjunction.

Weel, I tend more to the caligraphic tool. It was on default settings; have not used it since installation of inkscape.

- similar to Bug 247166?
- could you try to reproduce this bug using your own drawing with the calligraphic tool?

I am already on this the last hour, but it seems to be a one time one.

-> After the last hour I am sure this is to much on random as I can give a workflow for reproducing when I should hit it by luck, which seems to be necessary here.

I agree that this here is most properly a duplicate of Bug 247166.

reproduced on Windows 7, Inkscape 0.48.2, using a blank drawing and the calligraphic tool. Get multiple warnings as below. The trick seems to be to use very short strokes, clicking the left button on and off quickly.

Proposing to link as duplicate to
Bug #247166 “calligraphic pen stroke sometimes fails”
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/247166>
and adding any new findings there - I don't see anything in this bug report which would indicate that this is a different issue (and bug #247166 still waits to be confirmed i.e. reproduced).

Yes, it is like you describe: I´ve also catched it, but my internet connection broke down.

I´ve done it in a way, that I paintet with long stronks over and over and shorten them over time(all in the same direction). Then clicking very fast on the center of this.

It seems to be like that, that when you hit with clicking one of the border lines of the strokes(probability is high in the center) the warning comes up. -> I have this way easy around 30 warnings.

I would mark this here as duplicate, but I know launchpad not so much(mostly on bugzilla)

Ah, I´ve found it.

I copy Alvin´s post and my last one over there.
